Bone density diagnosis - Densitometer
A bone examination using a densitometer is a measure of bone mineral density.

The equipment uses the latest method known as dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA), which gives a good quality image in a shorter exposure time, and is a highly accurate method of measuring bone mineral density in the spine, thigh bone or even the whole skeleton. |
A densitometer test is totally painless and has no harmful effects on the health. There is no need to undress; the patient should, however, remove any metal accessories from the area to be examined. The examination lasts several minutes, and the computer then presents the results in the form of a graph and a table.
Being able to assess the extent of bone mineral loss is highly important, not only for the early diagnosis of osteoporosis, but also in order to be able to identify osteopenia, a thinning of the bone mass considered to be a severe risk factor for the later development of osteoporosis. Such identifications allow heightened preventive measures to be taken.
The examination is also the principal method of ascertaining the effects of treatment, since bone mineral density is often subject to change during this time.
The Densitometer at BALTICA Wellness & Spa can also test whole body composition (Total Body) including fat content, and is also suitable for use with children, for the early diagnosis of skeletal problems.
