Ayurveda – Abhyanga

Ayurveda - "ayur" means life, with "veda" total knowledge.
The holistic philosophy of Ayurveda is a combination of principles and methods leading us to perfect harmony and balance, both in body and mind.  Originally from India, Ayurvedic therapy is one of the oldest known systems of natural health care, whose aim is to open up the body’s energy channels, activate its immune system and achieve perfect harmony between body and mind.

Ayurvedic massages form only a part of Indian therapy, and should be preceded by appropriate preparation in the form of a light diet, abstinence from alcohol, and attaining a calm mood. In order to benefit fully from the treatments, 3 Abhayanga massages are recommended, finishing with Shirodhara.

The Ayurveda massage starts with the Abhyanga and is continued with other types of massages (i.e. Shirodhara). Abhyanga is the most essential massage in the Ayurveda, which has the task to open all the energy channels, by means of appropriate strokes which are applied by the therapist. The co-called “energy channels” are being massaged, through which the energy flows. Disturbance of this energy will lead to accumulation of toxins in the body. It is recommended to relax in a quiet and calm place after the Abhyanga massage.
